Rolling helps smooth out uneven ground caused by freeze/thaw, worms and ant hills.  It makes lawn mowing easier because your mower will not bounce as much.  Rolling is done in the spring when the ground is soft.

Aerating helps reduce lawn compaction which increases and deepens root growth.  It also enhances soil water uptake, reduces water run-off and enhances drought resistance in a lawn. An aerator removes cores that are 3/4" wide by 2 1/2" deep and lays them on the lawn.  The cores should not be raked up.  They will break down in 10 to 14 days.  Aerating is beneficial in the spring and in the fall.

Dethatching helps remove thatch that builds up in a lawn.  Removing thatch enhances water and fertilizer penetration, reduces the chance of fungus  growth and reduces the chance of surface feeding insects in a lawn.  A dethatcher lifts thatch from the root zone of a lawn and lays the thatch on top of the grass.  The thatch then needs to be raked up by the home owner.  Dethatching is equivalent to a heavy duty raking by hand.  Thatch clean up is equivalent to light raking.  Dethatching is beneficial in the spring and in the fall.

Over seeding helps to thicken an existing lawn.  Over seeding is an application of grass seed  by a broadcast spreader.  Over seeding is best applied after aerating in the spring and fall.

Weed management controls a variety of broadleaf weeds including dandelions, thistles, creeping charlie and bind weed.  Once weed management has been applied to a lawn, adults, children and pets should stay off the lawn until it is dry; approximately 3 hours.  The lawn should not be watered for at least 6 hours after an application and should not be cut for at least 24 hours. 

Chinchbug preventer promotes resistance to infestations of chinchbug.  Once chinchbug preventer has been applied to a lawn it should be watered in with 1/2" of water and the lawn should not be cut for at least 24 hours.
